Canon Ranks Among Top 100 Global Brands For 2011

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 28, 2011 – For the eleventh consecutive year, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today announced its parent company, Canon Inc., has been ranked among the top 50 of the 100 Best Global Brands for 2011 by Interbrand, the leading brand consultancy. The Company, which placed 33 for the third year running and enjoyed a two-percent increase in brand value from 2010, is ranked as one of the top electronics manufacturers and the number three overall Japanese company on the list.

"This prestigious distinction reaffirms Canon's position as an innovative industry leader, dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of our customers throughout the world," said Bunji Yano, senior director and general manager, Corporate Communications, Canon U.S.A. "The Canon brand is recognized for its rich 70+ year heritage of delivering rich technology while continuing to strive to be an environmentally conscious organization."

According to Interbrand, "Canon continues its leadership position in the consumer digital camera market with a stable of innovative products and a loyal customer base. In a fiercely contested category, the brand is setting itself apart from the pack through its devotion to corporate citizenship." The consultancy also recognized Canon for its environmental sustainability initiatives and product recycling programs, as guided by the Company's corporate philosophy of Kyosei.

Interbrand's ranking method looks at the ongoing investment and management of a brand as a business asset, meaning its method takes into account the many ways in which a brand touches and benefits its organization. The three key aspects that contribute to the brand assessment are: the financial performance of the branded products or services; the role of the brand in a consumers' purchasing decision process; and the strength of the brand.

Canon Partners with EPA Energy Star

To help you save energy and money, while making a difference for the environment, Canon has partnered voluntarily with the EPA for over ten years to design products that meet the high standards of its ENERGY STAR Program. This program promotes the development and introduction of energy-efficient products to combat global warming and other environmental issues.

As an ENERGY STAR partner since 1993, Canon has qualified more than 200 products that incorporate original and advanced energy-efficient technologies, without compromising features or performance. Canon has received eleven ENERGY STAR Awards for protecting the environment through manufacturing energy-efficient products.

Why buy ENERGY STAR?

ENERGY STAR equals saving money.

ENERGY STAR qualified imaging equipment, printers, scanners, and all-in-one devices cost about the same as standard imaging equipment, but use less electricity. In fact, using ENERGY STAR qualified equipment that meets the new specification (e.g., computer, monitor, printer, and fax machine) in your home office can save you $115 over the life of the products.

Did you know?

If all businesses replaced their stock of imaging equipment with new units meeting these new ENERGY STAR requirements, Americans will save 3 billion kWh/yr (nearly 10% of current commercial imaging equipment consumption), that savings translates into $2.50 per 100 square foot of US office floor space.

As higher energy cost and global warming become more of a concern for consumers, we are committed to offering solutions that help our customers save money, conserve energy and improve the quality of our environment.

So start saving now by choosing Canon ENERGY STAR-qualified Products.

Join Canon in making a difference with ENERGY STAR. Go to www.energystar.gov for more information.

Canon U.S.A. Offers Tips For Parents To Inspire Children To Become Future Environmental Leaders

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., July 25, 2011 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging and title sponsor of the Canon Envirothon, today released tips for parents to foster the spirit of environmentalism in the next generation, and empower children to be stewards of their environmental legacy. Canon's green tips, timed with the start of the 2011 Canon Envirothon, a yearlong environmental education competition, place an emphasis on enjoying nature together as a family, an activity that everyone can partake in this summer, and throughout the year.

"For decades, Canon has been committed to maintaining a sustainable environment and creating a better world for generations to come," said Joe Adachi, president and CEO, Canon U.S.A. "This summer, as we commence the annual Canon Envirothon, we encourage our partners and friends around the country to embrace the spirit of Kyosei, which reminds us to promote harmonious relations among communities and create a peaceful coexistence with the natural environment."

Whether you live in an urban area, rural region or in the suburbs, here is a list of tips to help you discover the great outdoors with your family and friends:

  •     Take advantage of the great outdoors: Whether you enjoy hiking, swimming, bird watching, star gazing, horseback riding, camping or just sitting under a tree and watching the world go by, national recreation areas offer something for everyone.  The national park system has been called “America’s Best Idea.” You can visit most national parks for free.
  •     Enjoy public gardens: Public gardens include botanical gardens, display gardens, sculpture gardens, arboreta and college campuses. Many offer educational and recreational programs for visitors and also conduct important scientific research. Public gardens offer people young and old a pleasurable way to enjoy nature.
  •     Do-it-yourself backyard zoo: Creating a wildlife-friendly yard (or even a balcony) is easy to do and a fun activity for the whole family. Take note of the wildlife that currently visits your yard and research their habitat and needs. Install natural food, plants and water sources your wildlife guests will need.

Canon Envirothon is one of North America's largest high school environmental education competitions. The 2011 Canon Envirothon will take place July 24 -July 29 at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada. The program consists of winning teams from participating states and Canadian provinces, competing for recognition and scholarships by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management.

Canon U.S.A. is an ardent supporter of environmental and community enrichment campaigns. For decades, Canon U.S.A. has supported a variety of programs, including the Canon Envirothon, Yellowstone Park Foundation, PBS/Nature Series and the Arbor Day Foundation. Canon works in voluntary partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to design products that meet the high standards of its ENERGY STAR® program. Similarly, Canon collaborates with the EPA's WasteWise and SmartWay Transportation Partnerships to reduce the impact of municipal solid waste and transportation activities. As one of the first companies to collect and recycle used copier toner cartridges, Canon U.S.A.'s Generation Green initiative combines the Company's latest environmentally conscious printer products and solutions, promoting paper saving technology, minimized product packaging and energy saving measures.
